The inner structure of this support is designed to reduce the pull of the patellar tendon on the tibial tubercle because it encircles the patella and inhibits movement. The strapping between the patella and the tubercle is for the purpose of producing pressure on the patellar ligament and further inhibiting movement between the patella and the tubercle.
